skinhead

skinhead
In Britain in the early 1970s skinheads were youths who shaved their heads and behaved in an antisocial way.
In the USA the term is used of those who are naturally bald. In Rabbit is Rich, by John Updike, ‘you twerpy skinhead’ is said by one man to another in a friendly way. A few pages earlier the speaker has been saying to himself about the man concerned: ‘It’s fascinating to Rabbit how long those strands of hair are Ronnie is combing over his bald spot these days.’
